Tasteful Oatmeal carmelitas Recipe

It’s hard to stop at just one piece of this sticky chocolate and oat slice.
Oatmeal carmelitas

Ingredients

  • 400g jersey caramels

  • 80ml (1/3 cup) pouring cream

  • 265g (1 3/4 cups) plain flour

  • 165g (1 3/4 cups) Uncle Tobys Rolled Oats

  • 125g (3/4 cup, lightly packed) brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

  • 225g unsalted butter, at room temperature, chopped

  • 190g (1 cup) NESTLÉ BAKERS’ CHOICE Dark CHOC BITS

  • Melted white chocolate, to decorate

  • Melted dark chocolate, to decorate

Method

  • Step 1

    Preheat oven to 180C. Grease and line a 25cm x 32cm slab pan.

  • Step 2

    Stir caramels and cream in a small saucepan over medium heat for 5-8 minutes or until smooth. Cool.

  • Step 3

    Combine flour, oats, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Rub in butter until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Press half the oat mixture into the prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until set. Set aside to cool.

  • Step 4

    Sprinkle choc bits over base. Drizzle over caramel. Spoon over remaining oat mixture. Press down gently. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until browned and set. Cool in pan completely. Transfer to a chopping board. Cut into squares. Drizzle over chocolate. Set aside to set.
