The first time you saw fried oreos on a menu, you were probably like wait what. But if you’ve ever had them, then you know how good they are. Now, we’re showing you how to make vegan fried oreos.

If you have never ever heard of this concept then, yes, it’s exactly what you are thinking. We take an Oreo, or chocolate sandwich cookie, roll it into a batter and then deep fry.  Yes, it’s as good as you are imagining.

It’s also super easy to make. Vegan fried oreos only need 8 ingredients and are ready in roughly 20 minutes start to finish. It’s such a fun treat!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these vegan fried oreos Top 8 Allergen Free?

The batter can be made with gluten free flour (we’ve had the best luck with King Arthur Measure for Measure). And using vegan gluten free chocolate sandwich cookies (it appears that the Glutino version is safe).

Otherwise, the recipe is already written in a way that is top 8 allergen friendly.

Can I prep these ahead?

Fried Oreos are best served immediately. If you do need to reheat them, we’d recommend making and reheating in an air fryer at 400 degrees F for a few minutes.

Another option would be to make the batter ahead of time and store, covered, in the fridge for up to 3 days. The batter will thicken the longer it sits, so you may have to add some additional dairy free milk. You want a thick pancake batter like consistency for these.

Can I make these vegan fried oreos oil free?

We get asked to make these oil free a lot.

We haven’t seen oil free chocolate sandwich cookies, but if any of you have or have successfully made them, let us know!

Can I just use my boxed vegan pancake batter to make vegan fried oreos?

Technically yes. The batter we are making is super similar to a vegan pancake batter and some people prefer an even easier route. If you do make a boxed pancake batter you can just skip to the steps about frying.

Are oreos vegan?

This is one of the most debatable vegan questions out there.

Some say yes, and some say no and it really comes down to how you feel about some of the ingredients.

At face value there are no ingredients in the listed ingredients that are from animals.

There is a “may contains milk” statement that basically says that the product is in a facility and ran on equipment that also contain milk. This statement is more for people with allergens and it’s not even legally required to be there. We say this because there are many products that aren’t listing a voluntary may contain statement that you may be consuming.

Some people avoid palm oil because of the destruction of rain forest. Even the organic chocolate sandwich cookies usually contain palm oil. So if you are someone who avoids palm oil, then you probably don’t want to make these.

Lastly, is the sugar source. From our understanding, Nabisco hasn’t made it clear where the sugar is sourced; however, there are other options. Annie’s Grabbits chocolate sandwich cookies container organic sugar, which means that it cannot contain animal products, thus better for vegan to consume.
